Crewe bridge closes following suspected arson of vehicle

A major bridge in Crewe had to close following a serious car blaze in the town, believed to be an act of arson.
On Wednesday 5 February, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service received reports of an incident on Sydney Road, close to the bridge.
At 7.45pm, one fire engine from Crewe arrived at the scene, discovering a vehicle well alight.

Due to the suspicious nature of the incident and the fire being so close to the bridge, Crewe firefighters called Cheshire Police to the scene.
Officers assisted with road closures while firefighters put out the fire with a dry powder extinguisher.
A thermal imaging camera was used to check a nearby electrical substation, which showed no sign of fire damage.
Enquiries into the Crewe car fire incident remain ongoing, with any witnesses urged to come forward.
A Cheshire Police spokesperson told Nub News: "At 7.57pm on Wednesday 5 February, police received a report from Cheshire Fire and Rescue that a car was on fire on Sydney Road in Crewe.
"Officers assisted with road closures while firefighters put out the fire.

"Enquiries are ongoing into the fire which is believed to be suspicious.
"Anyone with information should contact Cheshire Police on 101 or via the website, quoting IML 2021291.
"Alternatively, information can be given anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
