Crewe bank applies to install roller shutter doors to prevent homeless sleeping

A Crewe town centre bank has applied for permission to install roller shutter doors at its entrance, preventing the homeless from sleeping in the area.
Applicant, Mr Andrew McGrath, of George Harwood Limited, has submitted proposals to Cheshire East Council on behalf of NatWest, Market Street.
The applicant wants to install two roller shutter doors to encapsulate the recessed entrance area, so to prevent the homeless from sleeping in this area.

They claim the new roller shutter doors will improve community safety.
A design and access statement reads: "The proposal is very minor in nature and involves the introduction of two roller shutter doors at the branch entrance.
"The property is and remains a functional bank. The layout of the property remains unchanged.
"The scale of the proposed is in keeping with the existing building. No landscaping works are proposed
"Community safety is improved by this proposal.

"The proposal is will not cause change to the character of the property. Public access arrangements remains unchanged."
The last date for submitting comments on this application is Wednesday 14 May, with a target decision date of Wednesday 21 May.
