By Ryan Parker 13th Aug 2026
Crewe Alexandra (currently 'Crewe Aleksandr'), have completed their fourth summer signing, with the addition of a League One striker on loan.
Charlie McNeill has joined The Railwaymen from Sheffield Wednesday on a season-long deal.
The 22-year-old made 50 appearances in two years with the Owls, including 40 in the Championship in 2025/26, scoring six goals.
McNeill came through the youth ranks at Manchester United before switching to Manchester City.
For The Citizens, he earned a reputation as a prolific goalscorer and earned England youth caps.
United re-signed the frontman for a reported £750,000 in 2020, and he made his first-team debut in a UEFA Europa League match against Real Sociedad.
After loans at Newport and Stevenage, McNeil was released by the Old Trafford club in 2024 and spent the last two seasons playing in The Championship with Wednesday.
McNeill joins Joe White, Luke Offord and Jordan Gibson is bolstering Lee Bell's side for 2026/27.
The striker will be under consideration for selection when Crewe visit Crawley Town this Saturday (August 15, 3pm).
Crewe said: "Everybody at Crewe Alexandra would like to welcome Charlie and wish him luck during his time in South Cheshire."
It is understood The Alex are trying to add at least two more loan players to their squad this summer.
