One of Crewe Alexandra's star players who's 'loved' his time at the club so far is planning to pen new deal - following positive talks with the manager.

Rod McDonald signed for Crewe in summer 2022 on a 12-month contract - quickly solidifying himself within the starting eleven.

The 31-year-old defender has made 32 appearances for the Alex this season - scoring on two occasions.

McDonald grew up in Crewe and is enjoying his time at the club - under the management of Lee Bell.

The 6'3" player recently held positive contract talks with the manager - hoping to remain at Crewe next season.

McDonald told Crewe Alexandra's website: "I've loved it. I'm from Crewe, I've grown up here, so I've really enjoyed my time here. I'd love to stay at Crewe.

"I've spoken to the gaffer and the club want me to stay, so it's just that process to go through now.

"Summer is a difficult time for thousands of lads up and down the country who don't know what's happening next season.

"But, for me, it's nice to know what you want, and that the club want you."

McDonald is expected to hit the 300-career appearance milestone this term and is not the only Alex player out of contract this summer.

Lee Bell started contract talks with a number of players this March - with over half the squad's deals expiring at the end of the season.

Other players whose deals expire in 2023 include top-scorer, Dan Agyei and captain, Luke Offord.
