DAVE Artell has bolstered Crewe's defensive ranks by signing experienced defender Donervon Daniels.

Daniels, 26, who becomes the Railwaymen's third summer signing, arrives at Gresty Road on a two-year-deal after leaving Luton Town.

The former West Brom academy player offers plenty of League One experience with previous stints at the level with Tranmere, Wigan, Blackpool, Rochdale and, last season, while on loan at Doncaster Rovers.

The fleet-footed centre-half has amassed over 150 appearances in loan stints, including those with Tranmere, Gillingham, Blackpool and Aberdeen, before permanent moves to Wigan in 2015 and later Blackpool and Luton.

He spent the first half of last season on loan at Doncaster before featuring in three Championship games back with the Hatters before the season was curtailed.

Daniels, who can be seen in action in the above YouTube clip, has been handed the club's No.5 shirt.

Crewe are in need of reinforcement at the heart of defence after they finished last term with former loanee Michael Nottingham paired with youngster Luke Offord, 20.

Veteran defender Nicky Hunt was released, while experienced hands Eddie Nolan and Ollie Lancashire have only returned in pre-season after long injury lay-offs.
