A FUNDRAISING campaign aiming to send a Wistaston schoolboy for vital cancer treatment is enlisting the help of Crewe Alex fans.

A massive community-inspired effort has seen over £203,000 raised to fund Georgy Capener's stem cell treatment, which is unavailable on the NHS but has been offered to his family at a Thailand medical centre.

Money has been pledged at a staggering rate since mum, Helen, started a Just.giving appeal six weeks ago, and more events are planned, including charity football matches at Sandbach United and Nantwich Town.

Now Crewe fans are being offered the chance to buy cardboard cut outs of the 11-year-old to place on their seats while supporters remain unable to attend matches.

The initiative is already being run by Football League clubs to boost income from behind-closed-doors game and over 100 cut outs emblazoned with fans faces were on display at last Saturday's Caraboa Cup game with Lincoln City.

The Alex have already pledged to donate 25 per cent of profits from the scheme to Georgy's appeal.

And now fans have the chance to back the fantastic cause by ensuring the brave youngster's face is widely visible around the ground by choosing to upload Georgy's face instead of their own when reserving their cardboard cut outs.

George's uncle, Rob Capener, said: "It would make a fantastic statement if Alex fans could get behind this and buy these cardboard cut outs.

"We've had a photograph taken of Georgy in his Crewe Alex shirt and the club are planning to allow fans to download it as part of the cut-out purchases.

"We're really hoping that we can get as much social media support for this as we can. It would be great if we could have multiple Georgy's in the stadium."

The cut outs are being offered under the Fans From Home initiative at a £20 fee ahead of Crewe's home games.

You can find Georgy's photo here. And you can upload it to the Fans from Home site here.
