A 129-home development for Crewe has been approved by Cheshire East Council - almost three years after the first submission was made.

Cheshire East Council approved The Guinness Partnership's proposals on Friday (July 8) - the target decision date.

The affordable housing company first submitted its development plans for the East of Broughton Road, Crewe - back in October 2019.

The devlopment will be made up of 90 market dwellings with 39 'affordable' units (Cheshire East Planning).

During this period, revised plans were submitted to Cheshire East's Planning Department the in response to issues raised by the Council.

This consisted of detailed design issues, including car parking, open space/play provision and planting/landscaping.

The development site is approximately 6-4 hectares in size.

It will be made up of 90 market dwellings with 39 'affordable' units.

There will be a mix of detached, semi-detached, and terraced units - ranging from one to four bed units.

Cheshire East Council believe the development will provide adequate public open space, including amenity space and an equipped play area.

Ecological features will be incorporated into the development, including ditches and existing ponds.

The marshland habitat already within the site of the development will be 'retained and enhanced.'

The planning officer for the development said: "The internal road network meets relevant highways design standards and adequate car parking is provided in accordance with parking standards identified in the CELPS.

"Issues relating to amenity, ecology, flooding and drainage, or public rights of way have been addressed".

Back in 2015, an application was submitted to erect 124 houses - including 44 'affordable' units for the site - it never materialised.

The planning officer added: "The application is therefore recommended for approval."
