Council seeks consent to install Pride Progress Flag in Crewe's Memorial Square
By Ryan Parker 5th Jun 2026
Cheshire East Council is seeking advertisement consent to install a Pride Progress Flag in Crewe's Memorial Square, behind Crewe War Memorial.
Applicant, Mr Phillip Christian, on behalf of the council, submitted the proposals this June for a Pride flag measuring 6ft x 4ft.
It is proposed the new flag will fly from one of the two poles standing behind Crewe War Memorial, which has stood in Memorial Square since its relocation from Market Square in October 2006.
Originally unveiled in 1924, Crewe War Memorial consists of a bronze sculpture of Britannia standing on chains, holding a trident and a palm leaf, on a pedestal of Darley Dane limestone.

Designated as a Grade II listed building on the National Heritage List for England, Crewe War Memorial contains bronze plaques of servicemen and civilians killed in WW1, WW2, the Falklands War and the Gulf War.
This application comes before Crewe Pride returns to Lyceum Square on Saturday 13 June, running from 11.45am to 7pm.
The last date for submitting comments on this proposal is Wednesday 24 June.
