Cheshire East Council has announced the official date for when a major Crewe road will reopen - after being closed for over nine months.

The first phase of the NWCP works on the A530 Middlewich Road, between Pyms Lane and Smithy Lane is now complete - reopening on Saturday 18 February.

A530 Middlewich Road closed in May 2022 and was initially targeted to be reopened at the end of October.

Work to complete A530 Middlewich Road, between Pyms lane and Smithy Lane, took over nine months (Jonathan White).

In September, United Utilities discovered original pipework installed below the ground of the major road, was not as recorded.

A new rescheduled date for the road to reopen was set to January 2023.

Then, due to 'freezing' weather conditions, this was pushed back further to February 2023.

Following the reopening, attention will move to another section of the scheme.

Further construction work on a second section of the A530 – between Smithy Lane and Flowers Lane – will begin soon.

This will involve an initial phase of works under two-way signal control.

These works will run from the end of February through to early summer.

This will then be followed by a full road closure of this section of the road for approximately nine weeks - allowing the northern junction to be built.

Further information on construction progress, traffic management measures and diversion routes will be updated on the council's website.
