THE Co-op is serving up a new-look petrol filling station and store in Coppenhall following a £825,000 investment.

The work has seen a doubling of the size of the food store to better serve the community and the Co-op says the development will support 17 jobs with six of them new appointments.

The Bradfield Road site will re-open between 5am to 12 (midnight) on Friday (August 7).

It closed in February for the major makeover and re-opens with Amazon Lockers, customer car parking, hot food, Costa coffee express and bakery.

There will be an increased focus on fresh, healthy produce, award winning wines, ready meals and pizzas, free-from and vegan products, Fairtrade, food-to-go and everyday essentials.

Keith Salt, Co-op Area Manager, said: "We are delighted to have had the opportunity to make such a significant investment in Coppenhall. The site has been transformed and we are looking forward to welcoming the community back to their new-look store.

"A petrol filling station is a local hub – providing the food and fuel needs for the community. Co-op is committed to connecting communities and making a difference locally, and our aim is to operate at the heart of local life.

"We also want customers to know that they can become a member of their Co-op, and make a difference every time they swipe their membership card when buying own branded products."

The Co-op also provides a funding boost locally and gives back to causes in the area through its membership scheme, where members receive a five per cent reward on purchases of own brand products, and Co-op donates a further one per cent to community causes.

Contactless card payment limits are increased to £45, making it easier, quicker and safer to shop. The retailer's Food Share scheme works to minimise food waste and make a difference locally, working with local not-for-profit organisations to share food with those in need in the community.

While the Co-op's Community Shopping Card makes it easier for those self-isolating or who have been instructed to stay at home to shop and pay for their essentials. Cards can be purchased or topped-up by calling 0800 029 4592, enabling friends, families or volunteers to shop on their behalf in store.

The Co-op picked up the "Convenience Retailer of the Year" and "Food-to-go Retailer of the Year" titles at the latest Retail Industry Awards.

Students who are TOTUM cardholders - the new name for NUS extra – can pocket a 10 per cent discount off groceries at the Co-op.

Co-op is owned by around 4.6 million active members, and alongside Food, it operates: Co-op Funeralcare, Insurance, Health and Legal Services.
