A closed down chip shop is set to reopen as a new breakfast and lunch bar in early 2024, located opposite Crewe Alex FC.

Benny's Fish & Chips, Gresty Road, switched its fryers off for good in May, after a family member quit the business.

Operated by Margaret Kilgannon, the Crewe chippy had been running for almost five years.

This November, the business owner confirmed she had decided to bring back Benny's in the new year, but with a new twist.

Margaret told Nub News: "I am so glad to be coming back. I had no choice but to close the chip shop when my nephew wanted to leave and I couldn't do the job on my own.

"I didn't want to put any pressure on the husband training someone else up when he's so busy in Benny's on Readesdale Avenue.

"I have had a really tough few months feeling like I had let all my lovely customers who supported myself in the chip shop down.

Operated by Margaret Kilgannon, Benny's is returning to Gresty Road (Nub News).

"Now, I am coming back into doing something I can do without relying on anyone apart from the husband on match days.

"I will be looking take a few members of staff to join me at Benny's. We are hoping to open early in the new year.

Benny's was previously Crewe's top-rated food takeaway business on Google, receiving a rating of 4.9/5 from 171 reviews.

In November 2020, the business expanded to open its second chippy on The Precinct, Readesdale Avenue. This still remains operational.

Benny's will have a new indoor seating area for customers when it reopens on Gresty Road.

Margaret said: "I will be serving breakfasts, breakfast baps, toasties, jacket potatoes and burgers.

"There will also be all the chip shop stuff, like fishcakes, sausages, curry, gravy, doner meat, salt and pepper chicken, crispy chicken breast bites and cheesy chips.

"Benny's will offer a variety of hot and cold drinks, as well as selling lots of lovely cakes.

"I am not doing fresh fish because I have a serious allergy to it and I won't have a fryer man to do all the fish preparation.

"It is best not to do it if I can't do it myself."
