Closed pub to reopen with major expansion after plans approved

A Crewe pub is set to reopen after a premises licence application was submitted to extend the venue's licensable area and opening hours, following planning approval.
Star Pubs Trading Ltd has put forward a premises licence application to Cheshire East Council on behalf of The Elephant, Newcastle Road, Shavington.
The Elephant, which has been closed since January 4, 2026, is set to for a major refurbishment.
A planning application was recently approved to install a new garden room and pergola to the current patio area in the beer garden.
The licensing application, is on display at the South Cheshire community venue, requests to serve beer in this new area, along with extending opening hours to 8am for breakfasts and hot beverages.

The premises license application reads: "Notice is hereby given that we, Star Pubs Trading Limited have applied on 3 February 2026 to Cheshire East Council in respect of the premises known as The Elephant, 289 Newcastle Road, Shavington.
"This is for for a major variation to the premises licence to vary the following:
"One: amend the licensing plan to extend the licensable area. Two: To extend opening hours to 8am to allow for breakfast and hot drinks service. Three: Removal of conditions four, five. six, seven and 10."
Representations to Star Pub's application shall be made in writing to Cheshire East Council Licensing Section on or before Tuesday 3 March.
