CHESS players in Crewe have not let lockdown prevent them lining up a checkmate.
Members of Crewe Chess Club have gone online to get their fix hosting friendly games against each other and also taking part in a national online league.
Competition over the board against other clubs in Cheshire and North Staffordshire has been put on hold during the crisis. But members have not been denied their chess fix and have used the Lichess system, an open-source chess server, to compete in games and tournaments each Wednesday evening.
Crewe A team captain Karl Lockett said: "We have recently competed in a national online chess league playing against chess clubs from all over the country.
"Although results were mixed the club will be looking to compete in this national online league again when it starts again in a few months time, hopefully with additional teams depending on numbers."
Karl says Crewe Chess club has a reputation of being a very friendly club and welcomes new players of any age, ability or experience.
If anyone would like to play online with other members of the club or compete in matches against other clubs then please contact Karl at [email protected] or those listed on the contact page of the club's website
