Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, John Dwyer, recently paid a visit to the Crewe Shedders group to find out more about their work within the local community.

The Commissioner originally met the Shedders at the Crewe Community Hub, which he had sponsored through his Community Action Fund, and planned to visit them at their Shed at Brierley Business Centre in Crewe to see their workshop in action.

Crewe Shedders aims to promote social inclusion by giving both men and women, aged 45 and older, a safe space to make new friends and get involved with community projects, whilst learning or developing skills such as woodwork and pyrography.

They are located at Unit 16 in the Brierley Business Centre, Crewe.

Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, John Dwyer said: "Groups like the Crewe Shedders are such a key part of our communities and can make a real difference to their members' lives by providing a secure environment for people to share their experiences or worries and lend a listening ear."

"I'm so pleased to have found out more about The Shedders on my visit and to have been able to discuss the idea of linking in with their local policing unit and submitting an application to one of my funding pots for further support from me and the Constabulary. Projects like this demonstrate that community spirit is thriving in Crewe."

Graham Walker from Crewe Shedders said: "It's really good to have people like John to visit the shed so they can see firsthand the good work that is carried out at the shed."

"We encourage all to visit to see for themselves what can be achieved by people with mental health issues or physical disabilities or indeed people that want to come and learn woodworking skills."
