BUSINESSES are embracing opportunities to stay in touch during the pandemic attending South Cheshire Chamber virtual events in record numbers.

Scores of business owners have tapped into Zoom presentations and networking dates so far this year and now the Chamber has introduced a new social evening for members to connect online.

Chill Out with the Chamber, launching this Thursday (February 11) offers a friendly platform for people to take time out from the challenges of the ongoing crisis.

Chamber Chief Executive Paul Colman said: "It is important to keep a social life during this difficult time, and this event allows fellow members to engage on an informal basis.

"Many will have adapted to working from home or have their business activities on hold during lockdown. They can share their coping mechanisms as well as their general knowledge with quizzes and chat.

"There's a clear demand for the Chamber to continue its events programme online. Networking can be one of the most powerful and productive activities an individual can do to develop business opportunities and our Virtual Speed Networking this week was booked up in record time."

Every final Friday of the month the Chamber will also host an informal Coffee and Chat morning on Zoom.

On February 15 there will be a joint presentation with the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) on the Future of UK/EU Trade Relations and Border Arrangements.

There's also a monthly event when members can learn about maximising the benefits of membership and others can learn more about joining the Chamber.

Mr Colman added: "Our local businesses have shown incredible stoicism throughout this turbulent period in history but mental and physical fatigue is often behind brave faces. This isn't helped with a lack of guaranteed support over a longer period.

"We have joined BCC in urging the government to end uncertainty now and not wait until the budget in March to make any announcement.

"We hope to see more business support such as expanding business rates relief, prolonging VAT deferrals and further round of upfront cash grants."

Throughout the pandemic the Chamber, rated in the top 10 of the country's 53 accredited Chambers, has worked with BCC to feed back issues facing South Cheshire and offer moral support to local businesses.

It works to help South Cheshire prosper backed by major employers and organisations. Patrons are AO.com, Assurant, Bentley Motors, Cheshire College South & West, Guinness Partnership, Manchester Metropolitan University, Mornflake, Reaseheath College and SG World, Crewe.
