A FIRE at a Crewe property may have been caused by a bird nest stuck in the chimney breast.

Three fire engines attended the property at Flixton Drive this afternoon after reports of smoke coming from the roof.

Fire officers used two hose reel jets to extinguish the flames and the gas and electric supply was also isolated at the house.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "It is believed that the fire was caused by a nest in the chimney breast behind a gas fire."

Crews cut away and damped down the affected areas after arriving on the scene at 2.18pm.
