Bentley has unveiled its first fully electric car, built in its Crewe factory.

The Torcal SUV will be built at Pyms Lane, following a £350m investment in the luxury carmaker's factory.

The investment includes a brand-new production line at Bentley's headquarters, which has been based in Crewe since 1946.

Bentley is supplied by more than 700 businesses, with 82 based within 50 miles of the factory.

The Torcal has a 113kWh battery and a range of up to 375 miles.

It can charge from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in less than 20 minutes using a 400kW charger.

The Torcal S will be Bentley's most powerful car yet.

It has a top speed of 162mph and can reach 60mph from a standstill in 2.8 seconds.

The standard Torcal has a top speed of 155mph and reaches 60mph in 3.3 seconds.

Chairman and CEO of Bentley, Dr Frank-Steffen Walliser, said: "The Torcal is a Bentley first and foremost, created by hand by people who care, using the best available materials and technology to blend heritage with cutting-edge innovation.

"I believe this is one of the best Bentleys ever."

The new production line is inside one of the Crewe factory's original buildings.

The building dates back to 1938 and previously housed Bentley's machining shop and research and development workshop.

It has been stripped and fitted with a new floor.

The floor will allow autonomous guided vehicles to move cars through the production process.

Business Secretary, Jonathan Reynolds, said the investment would "support 4,000 high-value local jobs in Crewe".

The Government said it was investing £7.5bn to support the UK's transition to electric vehicles.

Plans remain in place to phase out new petrol and diesel cars from 2030.
