A cutting-edge immersive learning space has been unveiled at Avanti West Coast's Talent Academy in Crewe.
Designed to help staff put their skills to the test, 'Immerse' uses 270-degree video projections, sound, light and scent to recreate situations on the rail network.
The controlled learning environment allows colleagues to experience real-life situations they may encounter in their roles, from standing on a busy platform as a train arrives to observing how customers are supported at ticket gates.
It also offers the opportunity to see a station from a customer's perspective, including that of a child with autism.
The immersive space utilises light, sound, scent and fans to simulate scenarios on platforms, concourses, and trackside during various weather types and times of day. Users can also receive immediate feedback on how they respond.
Anita Brown, head of innovation and engagement at Avanti West Coast, said: "Crewe has a proud railway heritage and continues to play an important role in the future of the rail industry.
"We're proud to be investing in facilities in this railway town to support the development of our colleagues and create opportunities for the next generation."
Connor Naismith, MP for Crewe and Nantwich, said: "The new immersive learning space is a fantastic addition that will help equip staff with the skills they need to deliver an even better service for passengers.
"Investing in training and development is vital for the future of our railway, and I am pleased to see this commitment to supporting both the workforce and the travelling public."
