A specialist asbestos removal firm, that originally started off at Crewe Hall's Quadrangle just over two years ago has opened up a regional office in Crewe.

The company was founded by Tony Birchall, from the local area, who spent almost one year developing the business before applying for an asbestos removal licence. The company was granted a licence by the HSE in December 2019.

The business struggled initially due to the coronavirus pandemic meaning that offices had to be re-located to Bedfordshire in order to service clients better in the south.

The business is now picking up in the north west with enquiries coming in throughout the region.

SCK Group prides itself in being established in Crewe and the owners of the business have now re-established themselves with a new office on The Weston Centre just yards away from Crewe Railway Station.

The location is perfect for the company and Health and Safety Director Tony Birchall is to extend its services into South Cheshire and beyond from the new premises.

Tony added: "Coronavirus initially hit us hard and it's fair to say that we are still picking up the bits from this.

"Our new investment means that we will come back stronger and be able to support the planned business growth on a national scale.

"We are only looking forward positively and pro-actively as we know we started SCK just before this un-precedented pandemic.

During the lockdown I was able to stay ahead of compliance and best practice by self-study too, so I never took my foot off the gas as health and safety legislation is fast paced."

Asbestos remains a problem in the UK with over 5,000 people each year dying as a result of exposure to asbestos which is commonly found in workplaces built before year 2000.

Asbestos causes occupational diseases such as asbestosis, mesothelioma, pleural plaques and other cancers.

In Crewe, in particular, there still remains an asbestos legacy as asbestos was commonly used in the rail and construction sectors.
