POLICE are urging residents to consider buying anti-theft devices after a spate of keyless thefts in Crewe.

Car owners on Wistaston Green Road and Teal Way in Wistaston have fallen victim to thieves using methods to hijack signals from hands-free car fobs.

Cash was also taken from a car parked on Wistaston Road in Crewe on September 15.

Police are investigating the thefts and say signal blocking pouches are a very useful deterrent.

"We are urging residents to keep their car keys far away from the window and door or even better purchase a signal blocking pouch," they said in a social media post.

"Teal Way and Wistaston Green Road have been victim to multiple keyless thefts from motor vehicles."

Keyless car theft or relay theft is where the signal from keys used for 'keyless entry vehicles' is captured by somebody standing outside the victim's house using a device.

A signal amplifier tricks the vehicle's computer to recognise the key fob as being closer than it is.
