A CREWE housebuilder has given a Nantwich football club funding to create thriving wildlife habitats around its ground.

Anwyl Homes has covered costs of £388 for a new wooden bridge, which forms part of the community wildlife walk installed by Cheshire Blades around its pitches at Crewe Road, Nantwich.

The donation was made from the £5,000 'Love from Anwyl' funding pot to help local not-for-profit organisations close to the Anwyl's Alexandra Gardens development, on Sydney Road, Crewe.

Graeme Gibb, sales director at Anwyl Homes Cheshire and North Wales, said: "It's wonderful to see a local football club encouraging its members and the surrounding community to take an interest in nature and conservation.

"They are creating something very special with their community wildlife walk and we are so pleased to be able to support this hugely worthwhile project."

Cheshire Blades Football Club are based at The Peacock Training Ground, Willaston.

Si Hoyland, from Cheshire Blades, said: "The club's ethos is to provide much more than a place for games of football. We aim to teach valuable life lessons and create a place where everyone will feel welcome.

"As part of our "Blooming Blades" project, we are creating a community wildlife walk around the perimeter of our football pitches. We have already planted hundreds of trees and created ponds that are attracting a range of different wildlife including frogs, toads, bees and butterflies.

"We aim eventually to open the walk up to the local community as well as players and their families and eventually provide a fully accessible path around the area.

"Once it is finished, the nature area will encompass physical and mental health benefits as well as encouraging social inclusion too for our children.

"With the generous funding from Anwyl Homes, we have purchased a wooden bridge to pass over one of the water features on the wildlife walk.

"This will assist our players and the wider community to get a great view of the water and learn about the aquatic wildlife such as tadpoles and frogs that we have at the ground."
