Crewe footballers raising awareness of mental health appeal for help to find a home

A FOOTBALL team formed to promote good mental health are looking for a ground to play regular games on.
Calm84 FC aim to raise money and awareness for mental health and suicide prevention charity CALM (campaign against living miserably), who provide a crisis line and webchat to people in need of support.
Former Crewe Alex and Northern Ireland frontman Steve Jones has agreed to be the new club's ambassador and they have already hit the charity trail after setting up a charity match at Gresty Road.
The game against a Chester-based team on May 11 will form part of the fundraising for young Crewe Alex Academy keeper Ashton Hulme, who has undergone a leg amputation in his battle against cancer.
The club aims to provide a safe community by the way of football for men to come and make some friends with social inclusion and physical activity the key positive benefits for people suffering with their mental health.
As well as running fundraising events the club is planning to provide free online suicide awareness education to the community through various partnerships.
More charity games and a tournament have been lined up to raise funds and help kick into touch the myths surrounding mental health.
Meanwhile, club officials hope other local teams will come to their assistance and offer them a pitch and facilities they can call home.
Calm84's Mark Dunning said: "After lockdown has ended and it is safe to resume activities we will be looking at starting up weekly training sessions.
"We have four charity friendlies and possibly a tournament lined up with other local charity teams.
"We are on the lookout for players, sponsors and volunteers. If people have a passion for football and raising money for charity then we want them to get in touch with us."
The club has formed an events team to raise money for the CALM charity and community projects.
An education section sources and provides mental health and suicide awareness training through external training partners to help educate as many people as possible.
The club's motto is Tackling Mental Health Two Feet at a Time.
Mark added: "Our first game is at the Alex (Ashton Hulme fundraiser) and we have another game booked in June then a tournament raising money for the NHS in August with some ex-professionals.
"We also have got Steve Jones on board as an ambassador and he says he will play for us when he's available."
