PARISH councillors have launched a campaign to save Shavington from a local government re-organisation
Under Cheshire East Council's plans - which are currently out for consultation - part of the current boundaries of the village are to be changed.
They would see the shifting of around a 1,000 homes from the parish of Shavington-cum-Gresty into neighbouring parishes including Crewe and Wybunbury.
Shavington-cum-Gresty, which is over 200 years old, would no longer exist. The proposals, which would leave an area called 'Shavington', would "destroy the identity of the community" campaigners claim.
They are encouraging residents to respond to the borough council consultation, which runs until November 28.
Their campaign is themed around Shavington-cum-Gresty having 'One Parish, One Community. One Identity.'
Chairman of Shavington-cum-Gresty Parish Council Benjamin Gibbs said: "My family moved into the parish as strangers in the late 1800s when the parish population was just a few hundred people, and since then, many more people have joined, and we have built up a vibrant, strong, and thriving community on what was once just green fields.
"I feel that these changes would rip out the heart and identity of our parish and residents should come together and support each other to ensure that we remain as one."
Campaigners are delivering a 32-page booklet to homes explaining more about the proposed boundary changes and a step-by-step guide on how to respond.

A similar campaign was launched by parish councillors at Minshull Vernon and District Parish Council over proposals under the same boundary review to split up the parish between Church Minshull Parish Council and Crewe Town Council.
Residents voted overwhelmingly against the plans in parish polls during the summer.
