A Birmingham business man has opened a smash burger and dessert shop - the first store of a planned chain across the UK.

Buns N Shakes, located on the busy food stretch of Nantwich Road, launched at 3:30pm this afternoon (Monday 21 March).

"I decided to open here because the people are so friendly, helpful and just generally great, I love it," says business owner of Buns N Shakes, Abbat Ahmed.

The eatery sells a wide range of hot food, including grilled chicken burgers and hot dogs.

Buns N Shakes also specialises in milkshakes, waffles, crepes, gelato ice cream and in-house made cookie dough.

The business has created five jobs with three front of house workers and two in the kitchen.

Mr Ahmed told Nub News: "The standout item on our menu is smash burgers. In Birmingham smash burgers are so popular.

"They are made with 100% British Angus beef."

Smash burgers are burgers that are formed into balls of ground beef, then pressed or smashed with a burger press into a thin patty as soon as they hit the grill.

This creates extra browning and flavour on the outside while maintaining the patty's juiciness.

Mighty Burger Club in Crewe Market Hall were the first business to bring smash burgers to Crewe. Buns N Shakes have added another.

Ahmed said: "We are bringing back an old style combined with a new style, food and drink that I see as quality, flavourful and a fair price.

"The name and food ideas have been designed ourselves, we our considering to franchise this business in Manchester, Birmingham, Stafford to start with."

Ahmed has been coming to Crewe for the past five years, analysing business opportunities when visiting his girlfriend - until his mind was made up.

Ahmed added: "I prefer Nantwich Road compared to the town centre for this business. There is a limit in the town centre to the customers that can quickly come in and out. Here, there is parking around back and front of my store and more disabled parking.

"You have Crewe Alex, the railway station and so many food outlets, it's a road that never sleeps.

"I have driven down this road at 1am and 2am, and there is still a flow of cars driving past, It's always busy."

Buns N Shakes is in direct competition with chain dessert shop Kaspa's on Nantwich Road.

The unit it is opening from was previously Dessert Master, a dessert store that came to Crewe before the chains of Kaspa's and the Little Dessert Shop.

It closed during the COVID-pandemic and struggled once the two dessert chains came to the town.

Ahmed added: "Kaspa's is a big franchise, but it won't match Buns N Shakes. My product and prices will win customers over.

"The pandemic has been harsh on everyone, as long as I make a fair amount of profit, what is what I want and am happy with.

"Customers will be saving money when coming here and getting a great product. It is a win-win for everyone.

"I can guarantee customers will not be disappointed."

The business owner was unaware of the Royal Arcade town centre development that was approved in September 2021.

He expressed his interest in the site, saying that if his business was successful on Nantwich Road he would seriously consider placing an offer on a unit there when it is built.

Bunz N Shakes opens just days after a new asian noodle bar confirmed plans to open in Crewe. view here.

Bunz N Shakes will be offering customers with thirty percent off for the first three days of opening.

The eatery will be open from 1pm to 10pm Sunday to Thursday, closing at 11pm Friday and Saturday.

Ahmed says these times are now set.
