CREWE'S MP Kieran Mullan is continuing his campaign to see the dualling of the A500 link road to the M6.
The MP held talks with the Roads Minister Baroness Vere and told her widening of the key road leading into his constituency should be a priority. He urged her to act swiftly and support Cheshire East Council's funding application for the A500 Dualling Scheme.
He had previously written to the Secretary of State for Transport to call for central government funding for the road scheme.
“Dualling the A500 is a key part of improving access to Crewe and Nantwich for business and preparing the area for HS2," said the MP.
"It will also help reduce the traffic jams during rush hour so help people get home to their families quicker in the evening. I fully support Cheshire East’s application for the dualling of the A500 and I will continue to make a case for it with the government.”
Heavy congestion is the norm at peak periods on the single carriageway section of the A500 between Meremoor Moss Roundabout and Junction 16.
Dualling has been proposed to help future development across the region and to support major investment opportunities, including HS2 and the Crewe Hub.
Several key Local Plan sites are also located nearby, including Basford East/West, the South Cheshire Growth Village and the Radway Green Extension.
