Today is International Women's Day and global delivery company Hermes have celebrated the occasion by donating £1,000 to Motherwell Cheshire, after a recommendation from Crewe's MP Dr Kieran Mullan.

Motherwell Cheshire who are based at 54 Beech Street in Crewe, promote positive health and wellbeing for young girls and women. The charity offers counselling, a range of educational services, therapy and mental health support.

CEO and founder of Motherwell, Kate Blakemore stated:

"The donation that we received from Hermes after the recommendation from Kieran Mullan, has helped us continue with our campaign focussing on keeping women and girls safe, working in partnership with schools and local charities. "We are grateful for the donation and the difference that it will make to local people." Kieran Mullan is currently working closely with Motherwell on a project to help keep women and girls safe around the community. This will include working with local bars, pubs and taxi companies to inform them on how they can help ensure women and girls are safe in their settings. Kieran commented, "Motherwell is a fantastic local charity that does amazing work to help women and girls – going into schools and other places around Crewe. I have been working with them for a while now. "I was motivated to want to do something in this area after hearing from lots of local school girls who contacted me about the issue and how important it was to them. Thank you to Hermes for the donation. This will help a lot of people. Last Saturday, Motherwell held a huge programme of events in Crewe's Cheshire College - South and West to celebrate International Women's Day. The event which ran between 10am and 3pm, included free workshops, local businesses and performers. Later that evening, the charity supported Crewe Market Hall in holding a celebration event of International Women's Day, running from 5pm until 11pm. The Market Hall was packed to see six talented female live-music performances on stage. All that attended were spoilt for choice in the food and drink offering from the market's independent businesses. Elsewhere in Crewe, Bentley Motors held an 'Extraordinary Women' event last Friday (March 4) to launch a female student mentoring programme. The launch event brought together students from four UK partner universities, Crewe Engineering and Design UTC and experts from within the business. Member of the board for Human Resources, Dr Karen Lange stated: "Women remain under-represented in many key areas of our business, so with International Women's Day, it has been a great opportunity to focus on how we lift the lid on the incredible range of careers we have to offer and encourage more women into the industry - as well as ensuring we support those who already work with us."
