CREWE Alex have completed a transfer window deal for Fortuna Sittard forward Bassala Sambou.
The 24-year-old arrives at the Mornflake Stadium on an 18-month contract to boost Dave Artell's striking options.
Sambou, a former Coventry and Everton youngster, has been plying his trade in the Eredivisie with Fortuna for the past three seasons, although he did have a loan stint at Danish outfit Randers in 2020/21.
It might be fair to say little is known of the German-born striker's recent form, but in all he made 33 appearances in the top flight in the Netherlands, scoring twice, while also netting twice for Randers.
He has a good pedigree having spent three seasons in David Unsworth's development squads at Everton.
Alex boss Artell was coy about a link to the frontman that emerged over a week ago, but the deal has now been done and is Crewe's first incoming of the window.
Artell has said he is confident of making more signings before the week is out.
There are reports that Oxford United's Dan Agyei is on Crewe's radar.
The 24-year-old, who joined the Us in the summer of 2019, has yet to force his way into Karl Robinson's starting XI on a regular basis, with the majority of the attacker's 90 plus appearances over the last three seasons, being made off the bench.
Meanwhile, defender Callum McFadzean became the second to exit the club in the window with the 28-year-old signing a two-and-a-half year deal at cash-rich National League neighbours Wrexham.
McFadzean, signed last July on a one-year contract which has been cancelled by mutual consent, was viewed as a potential left-sided replacement for Harry Pickering.
But the former Bury, Plymouth and Sunderland player struggled to make an impact ahead of youngster Rio Adebisi and only started six times in League One. He had been troubled by an ankle injury in recent months and last featured for Crewe on November 23.
Fellow defender Donervon Daniels departed to Walsall earlier in the week.
- Former Alex man Charlie Kirk is also on the move having agreed a loan switch from Charlton, where he has struggled for game time, to join Neil Critchley's Blackpool where he will link up with former team mate Owen Dale in the Championship.
