Nowadays, many scholars who are dedicated to exploring the past and present of their regions face contemporary challenges. In recent years, the geopolitical reality – marked by the ongoing war in Ukraine – has placed unprecedented barriers among the scholars of the academic and research community. In this context, the need of common support and international solidarity has never been more essential. Check the opportunities offered by the Mieroszewski Centre and make sure that the dialogue on the common heritage of Central and Eastern Europe remains uninterrupted.

Mission – to support the people of academic society

The Mieroszewski Centre, located in Warsaw, is an institution that supports and initiates research and scholar activities among the nations of Central and Eastern Europe. Established by the act of the Polish Parliament, the Centre is like a bridge for foreign academic researchers – especially those from Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia, and Moldova. One of the Centre's current offer, a research in poland, is one of the most transparent scholarship programmes that supports research activities in a financial way.

The Mieroszewski Centre's scholarship offer is tailored for historians, scientists, scholars, and researchers whose work focuses on the shared heritage of the region of Central and Eastern Europe. As a member of the academic community, you can overcome local limitations and participate in a programme that will expand your scholar career into new areas.

What is the "Research in Poland" programme about?

This programme has become a flagship initiative of the Mieroszewski Centre. Its main goal is to provide financial support to foreign scholars that are deeply investigating the history, political issues, culture, and heritage of Central and Eastern European nations. The offer is specifically aimed at foreign scholars of academic, expert, and analytical centres (including doctoral candidates) who wish to conduct their studies within Poland's academic ecosystem.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Last year's research project covered such topics as an analysis of Ukrainian-Polish relations between 1918 and 1921 (in the context of geopolitical transformation) or research on collecting practices in Central Europe in 1940s and 1950s. It is clear that this scholarship is perfect for those who want to focus entirely on their scientific pursuits.

The "Research in Poland" – programme details

Are you aiming at financial freedom to pursue your academic work? Here are the details of the "Research in Poland" scholarship programme:

  • the programme is open to foreign researchers (non-Polish citizens) who are part of academic, expert, or analytical institutions. This includes scholars with documented track record of research, as well as doctoral students without a doctoral degree,
  • candidates must submit their applications through the Centre's online generator. This includes a detailed project description, a professional academic CV, and the list of the most significant publications. The commission will specify the full list of documents when the scholarship recruitment begins,
  • selected candidates will receive a monthly financial support of PLN 6,500 for the duration of their stay in Poland. The scholarship can be awarded for a period ranging from three to nine months, depending on the complexity and needs of the proposed research project. The funding should cover the living expenses and the cost of research.

Resilience through research

As a war between Ukraine and Russia demonstrates, in today's world history can be the first source of conflict. Therefore, the preservation of shared heritage becomes a profound act of resistance. For many scholars – especially those from Ukraine where libraries and archives are lost in flames of geopolitical tragedy – it is a chance to grow in strength despite the conflict.

Experience the academic solidarity and open door to your scientific career. The "Research in Poland" programme is an invitation to searching so the dialogue between nations will never extinguish.
