National clothing retailer, M&Co have announced the closure of all 170 stores across the country including the 5 stores in the county.
The retailer currently employs 2,000 nationwide and currently has 3 stores in Cheshire East, in Congleton, Sandbach and Nantwich. It announced in late 2022 that it had appointed administrators for a second time and despite a sale of the company to AK Retail Holdings, the company announced on Facebook today, the closure of the stores;
"Unfortunately, we haven't received the news we would have hoped for during our administration period, and would like to share this news with you.
"As we haven't received any funded, deliverable offers that would result in the transfer of the company's stores or staff to a potential buyer, this means that all of our stores will close."
The company has been trading in the county for years but due to rising costs and decreasing customer confidence, it has struggled to keep pace with the high street.
All three stores had already been trying to clear stock in recent weeks as they hoped a buyer would be found, however, AK Retail Holdings who own plus-sized retailer Yours Clothing don't have plans to keep a physical presence on the High Street.
There is no news yet on the last day of trading for any of the Cheshire M&Co stores.
