OVER the past couple of weeks eyes have been firmly fixed on Glasgow's CO26 Climate Conference.

But local firm KPI Recruiting has had its own 'green gathering' - which they named KPI26 - aimed at assessing how staff could make changes so as to have a positive impact on the planet's future.

A spokesperson for KPI, which has offices on Nantwich Road in Crewe, said: "We split the KPI'ers into teams and gave them the time to discuss and brainstorm with the key phrase being "change for the better"."

Among the ideas that staff came up with were:

  • Changing from bottled water to plumbed in water dispensers to reduce plastic waste.
  • Car sharing for journeys to the firm's offices
  • Conducting more virtual Teams meetings to minimise travel
  • Online registration forms to reduce the use of paper
In collaboration with KPI's client New Look the staff decided their finale at the end of the week of activities was to donate "26" bicycles to work seekers looking to gain employment at the global fashion retailer's site at Lymedale Business Park in Newcastle-under-Lyme. This will not only reduce the carbon footprint but has the added benefit of helping people into work who may have no access to transport. To be eligible the workers must be:
  • 18yrs+
  • Follow a core shift pattern
  • Commit to 40+ hours per week
  • Complete a minimum total of 80 hours
  • Start work by December 3
