Crewe-born BMX racer and track cyclist Shanaze Reade has been included in Cyclist Magazine's list of '31 Inspirational Women' being celebrated as part of Women's History Month.

Having begun racing at the age of 10 in Crewe's Tipkinder Park, Reade became Women's Senior UCI BMX World Champion in 2007.

This was the same year that, in her second track race ever and after just six weeks of training, she won gold in the women's team sprint with Victoria Pendleton.

Following these successes, Reade was the favourite to win gold in the women's BMX event at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Unfortunately, it wasn't to be. Having qualified for the final round, she crashed at the final berm and did not finish the race.

However, this was not the end for Reade, who picked up further world titles in 2011 and 2012. Having now retired from BMX racing, she is now a fitness coach, and still cycles regularly for enjoyment.

You can view Reade's full interview with Cyclist here.
